Five Hype Fashion Trends From Men’s Summer 24 Collections

For all the fun we’ve been having in menswear land, we are graduating into something more serious and sober in 2024 summer season. The runways show a handful of all-black looks, playing with texture, silhouette, fabrics, and more. This is doubly confirmed for me by the fact that so many male celebs were wearing all black suits on the red carpets this awards season, after a good while of prints, colors, and extravagance. Short hemlines appeared in tons of shows at men’s fashion week, and you can expect them to be a popular street style look this year. Most of the brands demonstrated how the trend could have a preppy edge by pairing tailored gray cropped shorts with a sweater, collared shirt, and loafers.

The outdoor-sport-meets-hype-beast aesthetic has cast a new line into the fashion sphere. Brands have pulled inspiration from the outdoors by incorporating fishing vests, and other utility vests into runway looks. This trend is great, because it exponentially increases the number of pockets on your outfit, and might even encourage you to take up a new hobby. Perennial plants and flowers have been blooming in menswear for the last few years, and seeing them blooming in this season’s collections isn’t all that unusual. But instead of the more twee prints we’ve seen in the past, they were blown to bigger and slightly darker proportions. While pairing a linen suit with sandals isn’t exactly a revolutionary move, the catwalks this year were particularly… toe-heavy. Expect wedding wardrobes to follow suit, for better or worse. Some brands paired a waist-hugging black suit with leather flip flops, and some styled them with a structured linen two-piece. If you have an aversion to seeing your tootsies outside of beach locations, you better stick to a fisherman sandal.
